Neda Laketić Šoć: A Sculptor with an Exceptional Passion for Painting and Art

Sculptor Neda Laketić Šoć and Her Painting Art

Neda is an academic sculptor. She was born in Sarajevo and now lives and works in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo. She was a full member of the Association of Fine Artists of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ULUBIH), the Association of Fine Artists of Sarajevo (ULUS), the Association of Fine Artists of Yugoslavia (SULUJ), and the International Association of Plastic Arts, AIAP-UNESCO. She has been a member of ULUS since 1992.

Neda currently serves as a board member of the Serbian National Museum in Windsor and works intensively as an independent artist in her studio.

This artist's works have been exhibited at numerous shows in Canada, France, Portugal, Belgrade, and other cities throughout the former Yugoslavia. She has received significant honors and awards. Although her profession is sculpture, she also works in drawing and painting. Each of her works reflects her personal philosophy and her commitment to preserving real values.

In October, she has a solo exhibition, Art For Life, coming up in Toronto, and she is currently preparing for it. The exhibition will feature drawings, sculptures, and Neda's new Eco Art project, Free Money.

Travel is part of your life, and you have a longer trip coming up. Do these journeys also inspire your work?

No, they are more an opportunity to exchange views with colleagues and take a critical look at works and trends in modern art, at individual perspectives and interpretations of new art trends, such as computer art and video art, as well as classic techniques like sculpture, painting, and mosaic...

Natura, Drawing, 2014.

Painting or Sculpture?

Both. For me, it's more drawing and sculpture than painting and sculpture, although all my drawings are in color, so it's much the same. I very rarely use acrylic paints and only exceptionally paint on canvas.

We see soft pastels, colored pencils, paper... did you choose drawing this time mainly for practical reasons?

It doesn't have to be for practical reasons. Drawing is always the foundation of everything. All you need is paper and a pencil, nothing more, and a drawing can be just as powerful as a painting.

Fantastic Animals with Imaginary Hope, Ink, 2014.

It’s a complex topic, but how would you compare the art scenes in Canada and here?

The difference is relatively large and very complex, I have to say, because there are still artists here who focus on classical art and draw and paint landscapes and portraits. It’s all present, but to a lesser extent in Canada, where young artists tend to prefer photography and computer video presentations.
