Take a Look Inside the Kreul Factory

Just a few dozen kilometers beyond the Czech border lies the unassuming town of Hallerndorf. On its outskirts, in a handful of buildings, stands the first and oldest paint factory in Germany. With its state-of-the-art equipment, it is hard to imagine that Kreul paints have been made since 1838.

It all starts with the recipes…

Just like the best dishes, paints have their own special recipes that are followed when they are made. Each shade is made from different proportions, which must be exactly right. Once the ingredients are combined and mixed, the paint is checked to make sure it has the right viscosity and shade. If everything is in order, a sample is taken and sent to the laboratory. The paint is bottled only after the sample has been checked and approved.

Although old recipes are used to mix the paints, the processes in the factory are fully automated. The bottles begin their journey neatly lined up on a conveyor belt. First, they pass under a filling machine, which fills them with paint. They are then automatically capped, and labels are applied to the bottles. At the end of the line, the bottles are sorted and packed into boxes, which are sent straight to us.

Kreul offers paints in a range of consistencies. And it is the most modern machines that ensure bottles can be filled easily, whether with very fluid paints such as silk paints or with thick paints (impasto), including Mucki finger paints.

And this is how even the little ones can have fun with Kreul paints:

We hope you enjoyed the trip to the paint factory and are already thinking about which shade of finger paints you’ll reach for next. See you on our next trip!
